Ribbon Board

My sister-in-law graduated from high school a few weeks ago, and she’ll be going to Baylor, just like her big bro, in the fall. For graduation, I really wanted to give her something personal but also something that she could use next year in college. Graduation gifts always seem to be practical… not a bad thing. I like practical. It just makes it more challenging to make it cute and personal.

Anyway, I decided to make her a ribbon board for her dorm room. So I took a trip to Hobby Lobby. Using a piece of foam board (a plain bulletin board also works), I used spray adhesive to glue batting, cut to fit, to the foam board – top side only. (The batting adds texture and dimension to the ribbon board.) Then, I glued the green paisley print fabric around the entire board. (I just love paisley!) I then interwove green and yellow ribbons of different widths across the top of the board (You could also do a diagonal pattern.) before glue down the edges to the back. Finally, I looped to ribbons to the top to make it easy to hang. You could also use metal brackets for this, but not all dorms allow nails.

I have to say this was not as inexpensive as you would think, but if you make a few of them or would use the left over supplies for other projects, then it can be.

I would definitely do this project again. It’s super easy and cute. Definitely a great gift for a teenage girl, who’s always wanting to hang up pictures. Next time I might try putting push pins, covered in fabric to make cut little buttons, in where a few of the ribbons overlap – just to give it extra support.
