Whole Foods Tip
2009 June 22
I love organic! But I also don’t want to spend a fortune for it. I have found that Whole Foods really does have good prices on organic products (Though Super Target is usually better on produce) than other stores. I learned a very helpful piece of information when I was there last week.
I was searching for organic ground turkey, but they didn’t have any with the official label. That’s when the man in the meat department informed me that all of their meat is raised the same – “organic” or “natural” – all raised the same. He was careful not to call the meat without the “organic” label, “organic.” (Basically farmers pay a lot for the label… getting certified as organic is a very costly process. I’m thinking he could get in trouble for officially saying it’s organic.) But none of their meat has EVER seen hormones. Compare this to the normal store, such as Tom Thumb or Kroger, where the “natural” label merely means they have not seen hormones in the last 100 days.
You’ve heard of uncertified organic? If not, now you have. These farmers use organic practices but have not shelled up the money to get the organic label. Fine by me. I don’t need a label, and you don’t either. Organic is organic. So go to Whole Foods worry-free, all meat there is organically grown, with or without the label.
*FYI this only applies to their meat, not their produce.

Great tips! I've always thought organic was a lot more expensive and usually only get eggs that are organic. I'll have to check out more items at the store! Swinging in from SITS!
We do the "unorganic" organic. That's the best way for us.
That is so good to know!
Stopping by from SITS. Hope you had a great holiday!
Stopping by from SITS. I don't know if you have Trader Joes or Sprouts by where you live but they seem to have fairly aggressive pricing on organic foods!
