Ugly Mug’s promise: “We only roast coffee that’s traded and grown in a way that benefits the growers and the environment.” It’s roasted with integrity.
I first discovered Ugly Mug Coffee in 2005 at the Chi Omega Christmas Market in Dallas. I hadn’t intended to buy anything, but after I took one drink of their vanilla chai tea sample, I was hooked! I bought a couple of bags… to be Christmas gifts, of course. From that point on, I’ve held my Ugly Mug chai close to my heart.
After that day at Chi O Christmas, I began reading about Ugly Mug. I loved how they sell coffee, chai, and hot chocolate – something for everyone! Even more than that, I loved their vision, and the fact that they used fair trade impressed me. To be honest, researching them in 2005 was the first time I had even heard of fair trade! So what is it? Fair trade ensures that farmers are paid a fair amount for their coffee crop. The middle men are cut out, so the profit is able to go directly back into the farm. Fair trade has transformed the farming industry, but depending on the market, this is not always enough. Ugly Mug has plans in place to help! To do so, they have formed economic development programs and partnered with companies, such as Grower’s First. Ugly Mug has gone beyond fair trade. I have a huge amount of respect for this company.
So just how good is it? Well, I gave a tin of their Creme Brulee hot chocolate (How good does that sound?) to a friend a couple years ago for Christmas, and her family loved it! They all drank it together and just raved about it. The Creme Brulee was a huge hit! And personally, I think their Old Fashioned Hot Chocolate is pretty great too!
As for me, I am not a coffee drinker, but I LOVE Ugly Mug’s vanilla and spiced chais! They are smooth and creamy with great flavor! I try not to be stingy with my chai. Believe it or not, I do share it. And every friend that has tried it loves it just as much as I do. It’s that good. The product sells itself.
Fortunately, Ugly Mug is spreading its roots! They were found in Nashville, so they’ve been available in that area of the country ever since starting in just a little coffee house. But now they are finally coming to Texas! Hopefully soon we’ll be able to find them in Central Market!
If you aren’t in a part of the country that carries Ugly Mug in your local store, you can still buy Ugly Mug online! And right now 10% of all sales online will go to help Haiti!
The best part of this? Ugly Mug is allowing one of you to try their products free! One lucky winner will receive a bag of their famous Vanilla Chai and a bag of their Saving Grace Coffee!
