A little less than 1/2 a gallon made a 31 oz. jar and two ice cube trays (for smoothies and dog treats)!
If you “like” me on Facebook, you know that on Thursday I was making yogurt – in my crockpot! As I also posted on Facbeook, a local farm, where we buy raw milk, had their raw milk on sale for $4 per gallon. We snatched up three! So I used a little less than half a gallon to try out my hand – or rather, my crockpot – at yogurt making.
I used this recipe for Crockpot Yogurt from the blog, From Blah to Ta-Daa.
And success! It was super easy. Though it took roughly 13-14 hours, I put the milk in when I woke up around 6 AM, turned my crockpot on low. Then 2-1/2 hours later, I turned it off. So really after 8 AM, I was free to leave the house for 3 hours without worrying about my crockpot. (I don’t think most people worry about it anyway.) Then after those 3 hours, I wrapped my crockpot in a towel. Yes, I know – so strange! I had my doubts. But 8 hours later, ta-daa! Yogurt!
This is a great way to be resourceful! When milk is about to go bad, turn it into yogurt!
