Recently I was sent the book, The 5 Money Personalities, to read and review. As nerdy as I may sound, I was completely stoked about this opportunity! Obviously, if you read this blog, you know I’m passionate about money – and saving it! What you may or may not also know is that I have a masters in counseling as well. I am passionate about marriage and helping couples to walk succeed in marriage.
The divorce rate in America is at 50%, and what may seem even more shocking is that 70% of couples attribute their divorces to finances. Authors, Scott and Bethany Palmer, were struck by these statistics, and after meeting with many couples in regards to finances, they found that the issue was more than simply not having enough money in retirement or sticking to a monthly budget. The real issue was how each spouse thought about money and how the two interacted about money.
The Palmers ask readers to read the book as a couple and to each take a financial inventory to determine their money personalities. Each person has a primary and secondary money personality. The five money personalities are as follows:
- The Saver
- The Security-Seeker
- The Spender
- The Risk Taker
- The Flyer
I am a saver (primary) and security-seeker (secondary). I took the quiz, but I knew this right off the bat! Can you tell what you are?
Once you find your primary and secondary money personalities, you’ll find that sometimes the two personalities will correlate, and other times they seem to be complete opposites. You can see the challenge such a dichotomy could present in a person. Now introduce the four money personalities that exist within a couple. You can see why understanding these personalities would be so vital to your marriage!
I have only just started this book, but I am loving it thus far. I look forward to delving in more with my husban
