As a cloth diapering momma, I love sharing my favorites from our cloth diaper stash with you all! Today’s brand I actually loved so much that I contacted the company, who gladly sent me new diapers (in the next size up – for growing Little Miss!) in exchange for a review! Meet Thirsties! I had heard awesome things about Thirsties diapers for a long time but had not tried for myself until this past fall when a friend lent me her. entire. stash! She totally rocks. Anyway, I fell in love!
What we have are the Thirsties Duo Wraps. What I really love about these diapers is the very thing I was initially afraid of – the fact that they are covers, rather than pocket diapers! (See? It’s good to venture out and try new things!) Aside from our g diapers, I had only really used pocket diapers. I was afraid that with Thirsties, I would need to pin the prefolds – a hassle I did not want to take on. Friends, that’s not the case. Not only that but I am going out on a limb and saying that I think Thirsties covers are easier than my current stash of pocket diapers!
These diapers are AI2, short for “all-in-2”, meaning they are two pieces. I simply fold up my prefolds into thirds, as marked, and lay that in the diaper, long-ways. Then I put the diaper on my baby. That’s it! Piece of cake! The best part? I don’t need to stuff them ahead of time, the way I do my pocket diapers, meaning these actually save me time!! AND they save money because you can reuse the diaper covers. I retire a cover if my baby poops in it. That’s an automatic ticket to the diaper laundry bin. But otherwise, you can simply remove the prefold and put a new one in.
In my stash, I have a mix of Indian cotton prefolds (the really thick cotton prefolds) and hemp prefolds. The thick cotton definitely do their job during the day, but for naps, I prefer hemp, as it’s more absorbent. (Plus the cotton take longer to dry!) Since little babies nap a lot, I end up using hemp more often, and I prefer it both because of how much it absorbs and how soft it is!
Because I just became acquainted with Thirsties diapers, I still have the rest of my stash of hodgepodge pocket diapers, meaning Thirsties are being used in addition to my others. For me, three Thirsties is an ideal supplement to what I already have. I was having to do laundry every third day with my current stash, but being able to reuse these diapers allows me to add days to that! If you’ve ever done cloth diaper laundry, you get it. If you have more than one child, you REALLY get it!
If you are a new mom and looking to start your stash, I would seriously consider getting Thirsties! If you are currently a cloth diapering momma, I would still consider buying some! Total time and money savers!
Additionally, these diaper covers are trim! They come in two sizes – size 1, fitting 0-9 months or 6-18 lbs, and size 2, 9-36 months of 18-35 lbs. This means you only need two sizes of diapers to get your through potty training!
Thirsties come in snaps or velcro. I have used both and love both! The velcro is stronger than the velcro I’ve used on other diapers and more durable! It also allows room to get an exact fit. That said, I have never had an issue with getting a good fit with the snaps. I like the idea of snaps once kids move around more with crawling and toddling and RUNNING!
They also have gussets on the sides to keep leaks away.
